The world’s largest PC vendor Lenovo has been founded in 1984 by chairman Liu Chuanzhi with ten colleagues, and it was established in Hong Kong in 1988 and would become the largest PC company in China. The company incorporated in Hong Kong in 1988 as Legend Hong Kong to help raise capital and gain experience in a more open market.

It Initially named as New Technology Developer Inc. After that, its name was changed to Legend Holdings. After it came into existence, its first product was an add-on device with the motive to provide computers with Chinese language capabilities.

In 1990, Legend Holdings launched its PC in the market as the company shifts to a producer and seller of its own branded computer products.

Legend designed China’s first “586” PC in 1993. After two years, it came up with the first Legend-brand server and by the next year, in 1996, As its productivity and the sales increased, it became the market share leader for personal desktop computer sales in China for the first time, and in the same year it launched the first Legend brand laptop at the end of the 1990’s decade, Legend became the biggest laptop manufacturer in the Asia-Pacific region.

In the year 2002, the biggest PC company came up with an advanced device Supercomputer, the DeepComp 1800 that is the first and fastest computer in China for the civilian market. Besides this, it was also in the 43rd number of the top 500 list of the world’s fastest computer.

In 2003, Legend introduced the Lenovo brand and logo for its products, in preparation for the company’s expansion into markets beyond the Asia-Pacific region. In 2003, Legend introduced the Lenovo brand and the logo for its products.

By the year 2009, Lenovo became Senior Technology Sponsor for the Shanghai World Expo 2010, selling its one millionth Idea Product.

The company produced revenue of 39 billion dollars and 54 thousand employees in 2013.

In the year of 2014, Lenovo acquired  System x and Motorola Mobility, which made Lenovo, the world’s third-largest company in both smartphones and servers.  In the year of 2015, 100 millionth Think Pad is sold by Lenovo.

In the year 2016, Lenovo extends its collaborations with SAP in order to develop an agile technology platform after that, it collaborates With Nutanix to bring transparent infrastructures into data centers throughout the globe. Then Lenovo worked together with Google to develop the first 3D motion tracking and depth-sensing mobile device in the world.

Today, with more than 55 000 employees in over 60 countries serving customers in over 160, Lenovo is the world’s leading personal technology company. Lenovo is headquartered in Hong Kong with its centers worldwide, the largest being Beijing and Morrisville.
