National Pledge of India

India is my country
All Indians are my brothers and sisters.
I love my country,
and I am proud of its rich and varied heritage.
I shall always strive
to be worthy of it.
I shall give my parents, teachers, and all elders respect.
and treat everyone with courtesy.
To my country and my people,
I pledge my devotion.
In their well being and prosperity alone, lies my happiness
Jai Hind!

But do we really abide by the above words? Ask this question to yourself. Discrimination in the name of religion and caste, corruption, and increasing crime all these problems are all due to the fact that we take the oath of the above pledge in school but we never abide by it.

Discipline is not the solution to every problem but it makes life more organized and gives the right direction to life. Discipline is key to success it is evident from the examples of the past that whenever in the war two armies collide the disciplined army is always victories.

The first chapter in the book of discipline is respect for your elders and teachers and listen to their valuable advice. But what happens in life is we neither respect nor listen to them and then face its consequence. Whatever success we get in life is because of the discipline we have in us.

Our national leaders have worked so hard from Gandhi to Bose for bringing Independence to our Country that they succeed only because of the discipline in their approach. We can take inspiration from them and we should also make ourselves disciplined. From getting up early in the morning, from having breakfast on time, reading the newspaper regularly, washing our clothes and polishing our shoes, living hygienic, and following a proper timetable of study. This small thing if we do regularly it becomes our habit and it changes our life completely.

We have examples of great personalities who were not the most intelligent but most disciplined students such as Dr. APJ Abdul kalam, Vikram Sarabhai, Steve Jobs, and bill gates. These great people were not the most intelligent but they were disciplined and that’s why they achieved great success in their life. These people knew in advance that the most valuable thing in life is not money but time. If you don’t value time in life then life will not value you.

One thing I will like to mention here is that discipline does not mean that you are a slave to your elders and teachers. Discipline means you are honest with yourself. If you are just obeying the orders of your seniors blindly and you are not honest with yourself. Then you are not disciplined but a slave to your seniors.

Respect is a take and gain process. If you want respect you first give it to others. But today’s students are very rebellious in attitude instead of giving respect to teachers and elders they hate them. The teachers and parents are becoming villains of students instead of becoming heroes. The main reason behind this is increasing competition and increasing aspiration of society.

Whatever you learn as a child remains with you through life. Our educational institution is entrusted with the responsibility of making students disciplined person. unfortunately, our education system is just a money-making machine. It has nothing to do with the formation of character, moral values, and professional ethics.

If we want to make our country more advanced and a better place to live. We must first make our citizens disciplined and in order to do that education should be a man-making mission and not a money-making machine. Unless we don’t improve the education system of our country we cannot make our citizens disciplined and organized person.
